Italian Adventures
The Italian Lakes and in particular Lake Como, have long had some sort of hold on me. My wife Gill and I have spent many happy holidays based on the western shore of Como at Cadenabbia. Many years ago we had a day trip to Lake Maggiore and visited the Borromean Islands and Isola Pescatore where I had the best Perch Risotto I have ever eaten!
We first visited Lake Garda in the late 1990s but it was 2019 before we made our way back there again. We returned to Garda in early March 2020 just before the world was turned upside down by the C-19 pandemic.
Our Como holiday’s excursions provided us with visits to many of the other lakeside towns and the ferry service on the lake gave access to many more. We even had the chance to visit St Moritz travelling on the Bernina Express which winds its way up through the mountains from Tirano in Italy via some spectacular scenery. Sadly the owners of the hotel we always used in Cadenabbia have sold the property so when we return it will be to a different hotel. Really going to miss the Hotel Britannia Excelsior!

We were based in the town of Garda on the eastern shore of Lake Garda and enjoyed visits to many of the Garda towns but also had the opportunity to visit Verona and Venice.
Sadly the company we used for all our Italian adventures, Shearings, went into administration in May 2020 so we will be looking for a new provider for when the travel restrictions are lifted. Restrictions notwithstanding we hope to be back in Garda later in 2022
